Letter from the Executive Director

Since 1993, CIS Nassau has helped local youth succeed in school and prepare for a productive life. For the first time in our history, we will serve students from every part of the county, Fernandina Beach, Yulee, Callahan, Hilliard and Bryceville. There are no town boundaries when it comes to the needs of children. The challenges faced by our youth are no less from one corner of the county to another. In every school I hear and feel the fears of growing up and facing an increasingly complex world within and beyond Nassau County. I listen to parents whose eyes show anticipation, pride and apprehension for their children.

Each time I learn of the death of another one of our young people I am devastated by the loss of potential. And I feel a similar loss when I learn of a high school dropout, a teen incarcerated or a 14-year-old girl's pregnancy.

When talking with potential volunteers or donors I often speak of "investing in success" or "investing in futures." Our young people are the future of our county and our country. Give them everything you know. Give of your time, your talent and treasure. Give the gift of knowledge, understanding and skills. Give them the gift of your heart to carry with them and share with the next person they know who needs theirs. Give them the tools they will need to succeed. Give them the resources they will need to help themselves.

It is my hope that this website will provide you with an increased awareness of the needs, progress and potential of our youth and a better understanding of the role, responsibilities and results of Communities In Schools of Nassau County.
